| About Innerspring Mattresses
Like all beds, you really need to try a
mattress before buying it. But you will still know whether you
like to sink into a mattress (soft) or prefer something firmer.
Innerspring mattresses can be chosen with the full range of
softness or firmness. The important thing is that whatever
mattress you choose, it should support you properly.
Support comes from the innerspring unit, and
the comfort level comes from the type of padding. You can choose
from an extra firm, firm, or plush cushiony feel and request good
firm support to go with it. It depends on your personal comfort
level.
Please do not judge mattress
quality by coil count alone. This is a very complicated subject.
While it is true that cheap mattresses DO have a very low coil
count, the very best innerspring mattresses may also have a
relatively low coil count. To confuse things even more, some
manufacturers produce low quality, high coil count mattress sets.
We would be happy to show you the various constructions of high
quality mattresses.
Padding in a mattress is as important as the
number of coils. The more layers of padding and the higher the
quality of the padding, the longer your mattress will keep its
shape and firmness. In padding, you
should always select richer materials and high quality foams for top
performance.
About
Boxsprings
Some innerspring mattresses
perform best on a boxspring while others are designed to be
supported by a firm flat foundation. The best boxsprings use
helical coils throughout. Most innerspring mattresses on the
market use a moducoil foundation. This is an inexpensive way to
produce a foundation that can technically be called a boxspring.
Moducoils are essentially bent wire and they have two majors
problems, first, they have very little flexibility, and second,
under heavy pressure they will bend permanently out of shape.
We'll be happy to demonstrate the important difference between
helical coil springs and moducoil support.
Mattress Traditions'
Innerspring mattresses are supported by coil boxspring foundations
or are designed to be supported by a firm flat foundation.
